Elisabeth Yates Speech and Language Therapist

Elisabeth Yates (Lis) is a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) - she qualified in 2000 from the University of Manchester.  She worked in Lancashire for 17 years in the NHS - in community clinics and mainstream schools with a varied and complex speech and language caseload. The highlight of this was engagement with families and multi-agency projects – Making Moves DVD and Top Tips for Talking DVD. Her special interest has always been in young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

In 2017 Lis moved to work as the Highly Specialist SLT in the Multi-agency diagnostic team for Autism Spectrum Disorders and other differential diagnoses in Cumbria NHS. This involved working with a range of young people with complex communication, anxiety and mental health issues for over 2 years.

Formerly she worked with Communicate SLT CIC with primary schools in the Blackpool area to improve their whole school approach to communication development. This involved individual speech and language therapy and training across the schools in 2020

Currently Lis works as Advanced Speech and Language Therapist as part of the Autism assessment Team in Lancaster and Skelmersdale for Lancashire Care. This involves Autism assessment work ups observations and ADOS assessment within the multiagency team.

Lis’ passion is connecting with children, building their self esteem and training others to increase their understanding and therefore empathy and compassion for the individual. She thrives on developing relationships with other agencies for the benefit of children and families.

She is EarlyBird trained - the National Autistic Society parent course for parents of children under 5 years with a new ASD Diagnosis. Lis is qualified in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule 2.  She looks forward to working collaboratively in real time with Clinical Psychology and Paediatrics to make a significant difference to children and their families.
